Dog Joy Society is here to support the discerning dog guardian
who wants the best for their four-legged companion.
Dog Joy Society's training and behavior modification programs are designed to:
1) empower the dog guardian to understand their dog's communication better,
2) change canine (and human) behavior in a way that is fun, cooperative & based in positive reinforcement, and
3) enhance well-being and joy at both ends of the human-dog bond.
All services are offered in commitment
to the most up-to-date, force-free, science-based practices.
Flourish:
Coaching for Canines
Comprehensive in-home behavior modification. Human family members do not need to be present; trainer works directly with dog. Consultation required before acceptance into program. Ideal for most dogs who: -exhibit leash reactivity -are fearful or aggressive -are newly adopted -display any behavior that is challenging to dog-human bond Ideal for humans who: -prefer to let the dog training nerd (me) do the bulk of the training -are frustrated/burned out from their dog or could otherwise use a break -want their dog’s behavior to change over time -are willing to change their own behavior to ensure their dog’s success -are committed to maintaining their dog’s new skills after graduation -want their dog’s emotional well-being to be a priority during behavior change What's included: -5 one-hour long training sessions per week, in which the trainer works directly with your dog using highly effective clicker training to modify behavior -Sessions will begin at your home and may include training outside of home depending on behavior -3 Frolic outings per week, in which the trainer takes your dog on personalized exercise and enrichment adventures to aid in overall health and success -Skill transfer session at the end of Flourish program in which you will learn how to maintain your dog’s improved behavior -Continuing Frolic program offered at discounted price after graduation -One free monthly virtual support session after graduation Details: -Recommended length of Flourish program will be based on consultation and meet & greet -Minimum of one 3-week term; two or three terms may be needed -$750 for 3-week term. Frolic:
Custom Exercise & Enrichment
Outdoor adventures to provide enrichment and exercise for your favorite canine while you attend to your other obligations. Outings will be tailored to support training goals. Meeting your dog’s needs for exercise and enrichment is an important part of a holistic training approach and will maximize training effectiveness. Ideal for all dogs! -Physical and mental stimulation are an essential part of a dog’s overall well-being -The right type and amount of exercise and enrichment make a huge different in your dog’s day-to-day behavior and make training more effective Ideal for humans who: -Want their dog to have an extra outlet for their energy -Want a trustworthy and skilled professional to provide safe and customized adventures for their furry family member -Are busy (who isn’t?) What’s included: -1 hour of custom outdoor activity, chosen specifically with your dog’s preferences and goals in mind -This could be a hike, a SniffSpot or dog park visit, a walk in a park or on the Beltline, a Farmer’s Market, coffee shop or pet store visit, or a combination of things -Safe exploration on or off-leash, practicing skills like calmness and paying attention around distractions -Overall, just a chance for your dog to get out and be a dog. Happy tail wags are the goal, with the priority being having fun, getting energy out and decompressing. -May include suggestions for in-home enrichment outside of trainer sessions Details: -Frolics can be an add-on to a training program or can be purchased on their own -Each outing includes one hour of adventure time, separate from driving time -Frolics are $40 per outing, or $180 for a bundle of 5. -Current students or graduates of Flourish or Family Learning have access to a 10% discount.
Family Learning:
Coaching for Humans
Training sessions in which at least one human family member is present. Designed for humans to learn how to work with their dogs. Trainer provides coaching and guides the plan; family carries out daily training program between sessions. You’ll learn valuable foundational clicker training skills, how to read your dog’s body language, and a productive perception of your dog. Consultation required before acceptance into program. Ideal for most dogs who: -would benefit a solid training foundation, including puppies -need to learn or brush up on a specific skill, like coming when called -exhibit challenging behaviors or experience conflicts inside the home, either with humans or other pets Ideal for humans who: -want to learn or improve their own training skills -are open to working directly with their dog throughout the training process -want trainer support and feedback along the way -want their dog’s behavior to change over time -are willing to change their own behavior to ensure their dog’s success -are committed to maintaining their dog’s new skills after graduation -want their dog’s emotional well-being to be a priority during behavior change What's included: -1 one-hour long training session per week, in which the trainer works directly with you and your dog -1 virtual check-in per week to support, answer questions, and adjust training plan if needed -2 video submissions of you working with your per week encouraged, trainer will review and provide feedback -Up-to-date and evidence-based training methods; a force free and positive reinforcement-based approach to teaching and changing behavior -Coaching that will teach you foundational dog training skills, and an understanding of canine body language and the reasons behind your dog’s behavior -Sessions will begin at your home and may include training outside of home depending on training goals -Frolic program offered at discounted price during training and after graduation -One free monthly virtual support session after graduation Details: -Recommended length of Family Learning program will be based on consultation and meet & greet -Minimum of one 5-week term; two or three terms may be needed -Each 5-week term costs $600 To apply for Family Learning, please submit the contact form below or email dogjoyservices@gmail.com
